Horse Round Up Adventure - Skrapatungurétt 2012

Dates: 2012, September 12 - 18 (Wednesday to Monday).  7 days/6 nights. 4 days include riding.

Riding ability: Riders must have some riding experience.  Rides from 2 hours to 7 hours in a day.

Accomodation:Summerhouses/cabins (4-6 people). One night in gesthouse in Reykjavik before departure.

In some areas in the north of Iceland horses are free over the summertime and until the beginning of fall. This old tratition gives the horses free spirit and chance to be raised in a herd of horses in various landscape. Rounding up these horses in the fall is a great adventure for fans of the Icelandic horse. Guests have the great opportunity to join the locals for this great round up adventure.


We welcome you to join this Icelandic horse adventure with the farm Mánaskál from September 12 - 18, 2012. Mánaskál farm is located in the valley Laxárdalur where the round up take splace.



Day 1: Pick up place is at Keflavik International Airport (or elsewere if needed). The group is driven tothe north of Iceland to the small town Blönduós. Accomodation during these daysis in summerhouses or cabins at Blönduós wich is near to the valley Laxárdalur where the riding will take place. 4-6 guests stay together in a cabin. Hot tubs are included.

Day 2 and 3: 2 - 5 hour riding tours in Laxárdalur and near pastures. Guests get to know the horses before the big horse round up ride.

Day 4: Horse round up day. Drive up the valley Langidalur where the trip begins. We ride over the mountain and come down into the valley Laxárdalur where the horses are rounded up. Guests and locals ride with the free horses down Laxárdalur to the round up pen at Skrapatunga. This ride is approximately from 10 in the morning to 5 in the afternoon. In the evening there is a local ball at Blönduós community hall which is optional.

Day 5: Sunday: Round up pen Skrapatungurétt. The owners of the free range horses collect them at the pen and ride with them to their farm. The guests of Mánaskál farm are welcome to participate in collecting the Mánaskál horses at the pen and riding with them home to the farm.

At the round up pen (Skrapatungurétt) you will see horses of various ages and colours. Here is a good chance to make a good deal on horses!

Day 6: Blönduós to Reykjavík: Drive from Blönduós in the north to the capital of Iceland, Reykjavík. Accomodation in guesthouse for the last night befor departure. Free time to do some sight seeing in Reykjavík in the afternoon.

Day 7: Drive to Keflavik International Airport.

Included: Accomodation, full board except in Reykavík, bus rides, horses, saddles and other riding gear including riding helmets.

Not included: Flight andtravel insurance.
